What Changed: Latest Government Updates

Graduate Route Cut to 18 Months
For applications from 1 January 2027, bachelor’s and master’s graduates get 18 months instead of 2 years. PhD graduates keep 3 years.
Visa Fee Now £558
From 8 April 2026, the Student visa fee is £558 (previously £524). The Graduate visa fee is now £937.
Higher Maintenance Funds
Currently £1,529 per month in London and £1,171 outside London (up to 9 months), rising to £1,570 and £1,203 from 30 November 2026.
Dependants Only for Research Students
Only postgraduate research students (such as PhD) can usually bring dependants. Taught master’s and bachelor’s students generally cannot.
eVisas Replace BRPs
The UK now issues digital eVisas. Students access and share their immigration status through a UKVI online account.
Stricter University Compliance

£12.71 Minimum Wage

The date that matters is when you apply for the Graduate visa, not when you started your course. The Graduate visa cannot be extended; graduates who wish to stay longer must switch to another eligible visa, such as a Skilled Worker visa.

🔁 Refused Before? There Is Still a Way
If your UK visa was refused, the refusal letter explains why. Before re-applying, we review those reasons, fix the weak points and re-apply only when the file is genuinely stronger. The decision always rests with UKVI, so be cautious of anyone who guarantees a visa.
💵 How Much Does It Cost?
Government costs include the £558 visa fee and the £776 per year Immigration Health Surcharge. You must also show first-year tuition plus living costs (see above). Tuition varies widely by university and course. In a one-to-one session we give you a realistic budget and a funds plan.

Is the UK Graduate Route being reduced?
Yes. For Graduate visa applications made on or after 1 January 2027, bachelor’s and master’s graduates will get 18 months instead of 2 years. PhD graduates will continue to get 3 years. Most students starting a one-year master’s in 2026 will graduate in 2027 and fall under the 18-month rule.
How much is the UK student visa fee in 2026?

Yes. Applicants from India who are coming to the UK for more than 6 months need a tuberculosis (TB) test certificate from an approved clinic as part of the visa application.
